After reflecting on my goals I set at the beginning of this course, I feel like I have accomplished them all but one. My first goal was to learn the basics of photography. This course taught me to look for the best angle, best shot. I found out that composition was extremely important when taking photographs. I have even applied this to my videography skills. I had started to pay attention to composition a little before I took this course, but I definitely learned more from the professor. When the professor taught us about lighting, it opened up a new avenue for me in my photographs. Not only am I looking for the right composition, but lighting is important as well.
With the color/black and white module in the course, the professor gave us insight on what to look for. He discussed the color wheel and how colors related to each other. I especially am glad to have found out when to use the black/white filter. It makes so much sense to use the BW filter to make shadows and details stand out more. I don't think that I met my second goal like I wanted to, which was to learn editing techniques that I can teach my students. I did learn techniques that can be taught to my students, but I was looking for more instruction in the course regarding editing. I just had a different idea of the course at the beginning. After going through the course, I learned valuable information that can be taught; but I will need to look into more in-depth editing courses in order to fulfill the required teaching standards. My third goal was to take better photographs. I believed I have reached this goal, but I still have a lot to learn. I still need to continuing practicing the skills. This course was a GREAT starting point. Thanks to Jon for the instruction and the projects. Part 1: Why is this my most successful image? I think this is my most successful image because the black and white filter makes the darkness of the face stand out. If you look at the pumpkin cans on the right, you can see the crackled paint. The black and white filter makes this more prominent. This picture was taken at the GA National Fair in Perry, GA. The original image was in color. The pumpkin cans were orange. I applied the black and white filter because I wanted to show the details and the shadows of the faces more clearly. The most challenging aspect of this assignment. The most challenging part of this assignment was finding the items I wanted to take pictures of. I knew time was running out for the class and was getting a little anxious. Then I had the opportunity to take some high school students to the FBLA rally that was held at the Perry, GA National Fair. After the rally, we walked around the fairgrounds and I started taking pictures. Color was everywhere. I had taken a lot of pictures that day. It was very enjoyable. What will I do in the future to create stronger images? I want to look for items that will create light and shadows. I want to take pictures that when I apply the black and white filter, the shadows will stand out. I want to search for more monochromatic scenes to photograph. Part 2:
Part 1: Why is this my most successful image? This is my most successful image because of the backlighting. The backlighting in this picture gives the trees and the bushes an ominous look. This was a picture of the sun setting late in the afternoon. I stopped down the road from my house to snap this picture. I love how the sunlight lights up the sky with the orange colors. I also love the orange tint in the clouds. The most challenging aspect of this assignment. The most challenging part of this assignment was trying to find different things to photograph. I am always driving because I work so far from my home. I am always on highways and looking at the scenery in rural areas. I wanted to find the time to travel to the center of town or another city to take different pictures. I also didn't want to just stick with backlighting. I wanted to experiment with all the different lighting techniques. This is something I will work on. What will I do in the future to create stronger images? I will continue to experiment with different lighting techniques. I am noticing more of life around me and am always thinking..."That would be a great picture." I hope to get up earlier this week so I will have time before work to stop and take a few pictures. The sunrise is always so beautiful during the fall. Part 2:
Part 1: Why is this my most successful image? This is my most successful image because of the detail. I wanted to get a close up of the moss growing on the trees. The detail is great and I love the background and how it is blurry. It makes the the details stand out even further. Also, I like the reflection of the water and the sun shining on of the left side of the moss. The most challenging aspect of this assignment. The most challenging aspect of this assignment was finding the time to take the pictures. I work full time and I have an hour drive time to and from work. With the weather we have been having it has made it more difficult to get outside and take pictures. This picture was taken at Banks Lake in Lakeland, GA, USA. I walked around taking photos and saw the moss hanging down enough for me to reach it safely. I didn't think this photo would turn out well because I had zoomed in fairly close. I was expecting this photo to be completely blurred. What will I do in the future to create stronger images? I will look for more angles and pay attention to the background more. I have been getting better on taking photos, but I have a lot to learn. I want to learn more about how lighting affects the photos.
